Changing the name of the Wi-Fi network (SSID) of the FRITZ!Box
You can easily change the FRITZ!Box's Wi-Fi network name and use a unique name for your FRITZ!Box's Wi-Fi network. If your FRITZ!Box supports the 2.4-GHz and the 5-GHz frequency bands, when assigning the Wi-Fi network name, note that the FRITZ!Box will only automatically steer wireless devices to the wireless access point with the best Wi-Fi reception and also to the most suitable Wi-Fi network (Mesh Wi-Fi steering) if you use identical names for both Wi-Fi networks.
In the FRITZ! Mesh, the FRITZ!Box (Mesh Master) transmits the name for the Wi-Fi network to all Mesh Repeaters, for example to your FRITZ!Repeater.
1 Changing the name of the Wi-Fi network (SSID)
- Click on 'Wi-Fi' in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
- Click on 'Wi-Fi Network' in the 'Wi-Fi' menu.
- In the field 'Name of the Wi-Fi network (SSID)', enter a unique name for the 2.4-GHz and the 5-GHz Wi-Fi network (if applicable). If only one field is displayed, enable the Advanced View or enable the option 'Different naming of the Wi-Fi networks on 2.4 and 5 GHz' first.
- Click on 'Apply' to save the settings.
