Setting up the FRITZ!Repeater for use with a fiber optic connection

If you do not have a router, you can also use your FRITZ!Repeater with an additional fiber optic modem directly on a fiber optic connection (Fiber to the Home, FTTH).

Since the FRITZ!Repeater establishes and controls its own internet connection over the fiber optic modem, all FRITZ!Repeater functions (such as firewall, parental controls) are also available without restriction in this operating mode.

You can either use MyFRITZ!App to set it up or set it up manually as described in this guide.

Note:All instructions on configuration and settings given in this guide refer to the latest FRITZ!OS for the FRITZ!Repeater.

1 Loading the FRITZ!Repeater's factory settings

To perform the following steps, the FRITZ!Repeater must be set to factory settings:

  1. Push and hold down the Connect button for about 15 seconds.
  2. The Connect LED now indicates by alternately flashing and lighting up that the factory settings are being loaded and that the FRITZ!Repeater is being restarted. This process may take several minutes.
  3. The Connect LED flashes continuously for at least 1 minute as soon as the factory settings have finished loading.

2 Connecting the FRITZ!Repeater with the fiber optic modem

  1. Insert one end of a network cable into the "LAN 1" port on the FRITZ!Repeater. Use the network cable supplied with the FRITZ!Repeater, for example.
  2. Insert the other end of the network cable into the LAN port on the fiber optic modem (ONT, Optical Network Termination).

3 Connecting a wireless device with the FRITZ!Repeater

  1. Make note of the Wi-Fi network key on the FRITZ!Repeater's type label or the "FRITZ! Notes" enclosed in the box.
  2. Plug the FRITZ!Repeater into an electrical outlet and wait about 1 minute until the FRITZ!Repeater has started and the Connect LED flashes slowly.
  3. Search for Wi-Fi networks in the vicinity with a wireless device (for example a notebook, smartphone).
  4. Select the Wi-Fi network "FRITZ!Mesh [...]".
  5. Enter the Wi-Fi network key (password) you made note of.

    Note:You can also establish the Wi-Fi connection on your mobile devices by pointing the camera at the QR code for Wi-Fi access on the FRITZ! Notes.

4 Configuring the internet connection in the FRITZ!Repeater

To a large extent, the FRITZ!Repeater configures the internet connection itself when it is set to factory settings and is connected to the fiber optic modem. If both of the LEDs on the FRITZ!Repeater light up green, configuration was successful and you can access the internet without having to configure any settings first.

If both of the LEDs on the FRITZ!Repeater do not light up green, automatic configuration was not possible or the internet service provider requires you to enter account information:

  1. Open the user interface of the FRITZ!Repeater.
  2. Enter the FRITZ!Repeater password given on the type label of the FRITZ!Repeater or the "FRITZ! Notes" enclosed in the box and click "Log In".
  3. If the page "Set up a FRITZ!Mesh Set" is displayed, click "Close".
  4. Click "Internet" and then "Account Information".
  5. Select "Connection to a fiber optic modem (ONT)" from the drop-down list "Internet connection via".
    • If your internet service provider is displayed in the drop-down list "Please select select internet provider":
      1. Select your internet service provider.
      2. If account information is required, enter the account information you received from your internet service provider in the corresponding fields.
    • If your internet service provider is not displayed in the drop-down list "Please select select internet provider":
      1. Select "other internet service provider".
      2. If account information is required, enter the account information you received from your internet service provider in the corresponding fields.
        • If account information is not required, enable the option "No" in the "Account Information" section.
      3. If your internet service provider requires you to use a particular VLAN ID, click "Change Connection Settings", enable the option "Use VLAN for internet access", and enter the VLAN ID.
  7. Enter the speeds of your internet connection in the "Downstream" and "Upstream" fields.
  8. Click "Apply" to save the settings.
  9. Now the FRITZ!Repeater establishes its internet connection over the fiber optic modem. Configuration is complete when the message "The procedure was concluded successfully" is displayed.

You can configure additional FRITZ!Repeaters as described in the guide Connecting FRITZ!Repeater with the FRITZ!Repeater (Mesh Master). Then you can connect your wireless devices with the FRITZ!Box home network.
