Using the contacts of an online provider

You can set up multiple phone books in the FRITZ!Box and then use a separate one for each of your FRITZ!Fons. You can either save new phone books in the FRITZ!Box, or you can use contacts of an email account with 1&1 (online phone book). In this case, the phone book in the FRITZ!Box is then synchronized with the phone book of your email account at regular intervals.

ATTENTION!Due to a change made by Google, GMX, and WEB.DE, contacts from these providers can no longer be imported into the FRITZ!Box.

Requirements / Restrictions

  • The phone book may contain up to 1000 entries. However, if you have several hundred entries, it may take longer to open the user interface and navigation could be slowed down noticeably.
  • Contact pictures cannot be added to online phone books in the FRITZ!Box. With Google Contacts, the pictures assigned to contacts in Google accounts are displayed. No contact pictures are displayed with other online phone books.
  • Online phone books cannot be set up if the FRITZ!Box is configured as a Mesh Repeater and it adopts the phone book from the Mesh Master. In this case, set up the phone book in the Mesh Master.

Note:All instructions on configuration and settings given in this guide refer to the latest FRITZ!OS for the FRITZ!Box.

1 Setting up a phone book

  1. Click on 'Telephony' in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click on 'Phone Book' in the 'Telephony' menu.
  3. Click on the 'New phone book' link.
  4. Enter a name for the phone book.
  5. Enable the option "Use the phone book of an email account".
  6. Select your email provider from the drop-down list.
  7. Enter the complete email address in the 'Email address' field.
  8. Enter the password for your email account.
  9. Under 'Telephone Assignment', select the FRITZ!Fon that you want to use the phone book with.

    Note:You can change the assignment at any time either in the phone itself or in the settings for the phone in the FRITZ!Box user interface.

  10. Click on 'OK' to save the settings.
  11. The entries from the phone book are available as soon as the FRITZ!Box displays the message 'The update was successful'.
  12. Click on 'Next'.

2 Synchronizing the phone book

Synchronizing automatically

The online contacts in the FRITZ!Box are synced with your online provider's contacts on a regular basis. Synchronization takes place automatically every 24 hours around midnight. The following happens during synchronization:

  • New phone book entries you created in the FRITZ!Box or on the website of your online provider are adopted into the phone book at the other location.
  • Changes you made to phone book entries in the FRITZ!Box or on the website of your online provider are adopted into the phone book at the other location.
  • Phone book entries you deleted on the website of your online provider are deleted from the FRITZ!Box phone book as well.

Synchronizing manually

If you added, changed or deleted phone book entries, you can also synchronize the phone book immediately:

  1. Click on 'Telephony' in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click on 'Phone Book' in the 'Telephony' menu.
  3. Switch to the phone book of your online provider.
  4. Click on the 'Synchronize' button.
