FRITZ!Smart Energy 250 is a current sensor that reads the consumption data of your digital electricity meter and transmits it to your FRITZ!Box. For this purpose, the FRITZ!Smart Energy 250 is magnetically attached to the infrared interface (INFO) of the digital electricity meter. The consumption data is transmitted by the current sensor from the INFO interface to the connected FRITZ!Box and is then clearly displayed in the FRITZ!Box user interface and FRITZ!App Smart Home. This way you can precisely record your power consumption and make make targeted savings.
You can still use the current sensor in your smart home as a trigger for routines. This allows you to switch electric devices in your home on or off automatically whenever a predefined threshold value for power consumption is reached, for example.
Note:All instructions on configuration and settings given in this guide refer to the latest FRITZ!OS for the FRITZ!Box.
Requirements
The electricity meter must have been provided by the meter operator. Other digital electricity meters, for example purchased from retail, are not suitable.
The INFO (infrared) interface on the electricity meter must have a magnetic surface to attach the FRITZ!Smart Energy 250 to and it must be activated.
The electricity meter must be accessible and located within radio range of the FRITZ!Box. If needed, a FRITZ!DECT Repeater 100 or FRITZ!Smart Gateway can be deployed between the electricity meter and the FRITZ!Box.
1 Preparations
Check the manufacturer and model of your electricity meter. You can find this information on the type label of your electricity meter, or you can give your meter operator the meter number and ask them for the exact model designation. Refer to your electricity bill to find out who your meter operator is.
Note:The meter operator is generally not the same as your electricity supplier.
INFO (infrared) interface Ask your meter operator for the four-digit PIN to activate the INFO interface on the electricity meter. Due to data protection, this interface on the electricity meter is usually deactivated. The INFO interface is where two light conductors or LEDs are located right next to each other.
Enter the four-digit PIN to activate the INFO interface on the electricity meter. Depending on the design of the electricity meter, there is either a mechanical button or a light sensor that must be activated with a light source, for example a smartphone or flashlight, using a specific sequence of short and long pulses of light. Usually the light sensor on the meter is marked with a flashlight symbol. You can find detailed instructions in the manual for your electricity meter that is provided by your meter operator. After activation, this interface provides access to various data such as the meter reading or current consumption.
Deactivate PIN protection by selecting the "PIN off" option via light signal or by button . Various consumption data is then permanently displayed. You can find detailed instructions in the manual for your electricity meter.
Some electricity meters must have the "expanded data set" activated. This can be identified with the "InF" menu on the display of the electricity meter. Push and hold down the button to set this menu option to "ON".
Click "Devices and Groups" in the "Smart Home" menu.
Click "Register a FRITZ! Smart Home Device" and select the desired option.
Within 2 minutes: Push the Connect button on the FRITZ!Smart Energy 250. The LED on the current sensor pulses green, displaying that it is ready to be registered.
The LED on the current sensor glows green as soon as it is successfully registered. Then the current sensor is displayed under "Devices and Groups" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
3 Mounting FRITZ!Smart Energy 250
FRITZ!Smart Energy 250 is attached magnetically to the infrared interface (INFO) of the digital electricity meter:
Either mount FRITZ!Smart Energy 250 vertically (with the Connect button pointing upwards) or horizontally (with the Connect button pointing to the right). Depending on the design of your electricity meter, the display on the electricity meter may be covered by the current sensor.
Mounting orientation of FRITZ!Smart Energy 250 on the INFO (infrared) interface of the electricity meter
If the LED on FRITZ!Smart Energy 250 lights up green after briefly pushing the Connect button, the connection to the FRITZ!Box and electricity meter is successfully established and the consumption data is transmitted. After a few minutes, the consumption data is displayed in menu "Smart Home > Devices and Groups" of the FRITZ!Box user interface on the profile page for FRITZ!Smart Energy 250 and in FRITZ!App Smart Home.
