Consumption data from an electricity meter is not transmitted
The consumption data from an electricity meter is not transmitted from the current sensor FRITZ!Smart Energy 250 to the FRITZ!Box. No consumption data is shown in the energy display of the FRITZ!Box user interface or in the FRITZ!App Smart Home although the current sensor is connected to the FRITZ!Box. The LED on the current sensor flashes red when the Connect button is briefly pushed.
Simply proceed as described below. After each measure, check whether the problem is solved.
1 Determining the model of electricity meter
FRITZ!Smart Energy 250 is compatible with most of the digital electricity meters installed in Germany. However, there are also digital electricity meters in use that are not suitable or their INFO (infrared) interfaces are not activated and therefore cannot read any data. Check these points:
FRITZ!Smart Energy 250 can only be used on a digital electricity meter supplied by the meter provider. Digital electricity meters purchased from retail generally have no INFO (infrared) interface and cannot be used with FRITZ!Smart Energy 250.
Note:The meter operator is generally not the same as your electricity supplier. Refer to your electricity bill to find out who your meter operator is.
The INFO interface on the electricity meter must have a magnetic surface to attach the FRITZ!Smart Energy 250 to.
Check whether the manufacturer and model of your electricity meter are included in this list of incompatible manufacturers. If your model is listed, you cannot use FRITZ!Smart Energy 250.
Note:You can find information on the manufacturer and model on the type label of your electricity meter, or you can give your meter operator the meter number and ask them for the exact model designation..
2 Activating the INFO interface of the electricity meter
Besides the meter reading, digital electricity meters can also display additional information such as the instantaneous power. This data is read via the INFO interference that may need to be activated by PIN first due to data protection. You receive the PIN from your meter operator.
Note:For many electricity meters, it is possible to detect whether the electricity meter is activated and transmitting data via the INFO interface using your smartphone. Set the camera to video capture (not recording) and point it at the INFO interface. With most electricity meters, a faintly flashing red point can be detected when the INFO interface is activated.
INFO (infrared) interface Ask your meter operator for the four-digit PIN to activate the INFO interface on the electricity meter. The INFO interface is where two light conductors or LEDs are located right next to each other.
Enter the four-digit PIN to activate the INFO interface on your electricity meter. Depending on the design of the electricity meter, there is either a mechanical button or a light sensor that must be activated with a light source, for example a smartphone or flashlight, using a specific sequence of short and long pulses of light. Usually the light sensor on the meter is marked with a torch symbol. You can find detailed instructions in the manual for your electricity meter that is provided by your meter operator.
Select the option 'PIN off' via light signal or by button to disable PIN protection. Various consumption data is then permanently displayed. You can find detailed instructions in the manual for your electricity meter.
Some electricity meters must have the 'expanded data set' activated. This can be identified with the 'InF' menu on the display of the electricity meter. Push and hold down the button to set this menu option to 'ON'.
3 Checking the mounting on electricity meter
FRITZ!Smart Energy 250 is attached magnetically to the infrared interface (INFO) of the digital electricity meter:
Either mount FRITZ!Smart Energy 250 vertically (with the Connect button up) or horizontally (with the Connect button right). Depending on the design of your electricity meter, the display on the electricity meter may be covered by the current sensor.
Mounting orientation of FRITZ!Smart Energy 250 on the electricity meter
Now the current sensor reads the data made available by the INFO interface. After a few minutes, the consumption data is displayed in the FRITZ!Box user interface or in FRITZ!App Smart Home.
