YouGov survey on use of Wi-Fi extenders

Wi-Fi extenders are the peacemakers in the digital home

  • Seventy-five percent mention internet problems in the past 2 years
  • Only 2 out of 5 Germans use a Wi-Fi extender
  • Nearly 30 percent of those surveyed argue about Wi-Fi at home

A survey recently performed by the market and opinion research institute YouGov analysed current internet use in Germany. The results suggest that peace in the digital home is closely linked to the use of Wi-Fi extenders. Over 3,000 participants were asked whether they regularly experience internet problems and whether they use Wi-Fi extenders.

Conflicts relating to internet and Wi-Fi – every third respondent lists Wi-Fi as a reason

Seventy-seven percent of those surveyed cited internet disruptions as a main cause of arguments. More than a quarter argue because of poor Wi-Fi range. Interestingly, 42% of those who have problems with Wi-Fi range do not use any extenders. Of those who complain about poor bandwidth and reception, 47% do not use any Wi-Fi extenders.

The solution seems obvious: a Wi-Fi extender can help to restore digital peace at home. The router's transmitter power is subject to regulatory restrictions and is often impeded by structural conditions such as thick walls or water pipes. In such cases Wi-Fi extenders with Mesh technology offer support in reliably extending the Wi-Fi signal to all rooms. So a Wi-Fi extender can help to restore digital peace at home.

Only every second household uses Wi-Fi extenders for better reception

Although their Mesh technology can significantly improve Wi-Fi reception in the home, over half of those asked in the entire survey (57%) do not use any Wi-Fi extenders. Only 39% use one or more extenders, while 5% did not respond. All users who wish to improve the distribution of their internet bandwidth would benefit from a Wi-Fi extender.

Many households experience internet problems on a regular basis

Three-quarters of participants said that there had been problems with the internet connection via Wi-Fi in their homes — 50% yes, occasionally (1-4 times), 25% yes, often (5 times of more). Around one third (31%) said that the main reason was insufficient Wi-Fi range or inadequate reception. Twenty-three percent blame this for problems with bandwidth or jerky reception. Additional reasons named were internet outages or too many users.

About the survey

The results of this survey are based on online interviews with members of the YouGov panel who had previously agreed to participate. The survey initiated by AVM/FRITZ! was performed between 26 March and 1 April 2025 and reflects the responses of 3,099 participants. The survey was stratified by age, gender, and region, and the results were then weighted accordingly. The results are representative of the German population aged 18 and over.
